Warren (Dr. John) is born in Roxbury.
July 27, 1753
The son of Joseph and Mary (Stevens) Warren and younger brother of Joseph Warren, John Warren is born at today’s 130 Warren Street, graduates from Harvard College, studies medicine with his older brother, then starts his own practice in Salem. After the Battle of Bunker Hill, in which his brother is killed, he is appointed surgeon in the Colonial army and is appointed superintending surgeon of the military hospitals in Boston in 1777. Warren marries Abigail Collins and helps found Harvard Medical School, where he serves as professor of anatomy and surgery. He dies in his home near today’s 23 School Street on April 14, 1815.
